KEH Camera: Review

Some of you may know that my 70-200mm lens was actually purchased from KEH Camera, before I started PhotographyTalk.

KEH was in a different ownership at the time. However, this is where I started my relationship with them. Over the years I have acquired a lot of lenses from these guys, and I can say that their rating system is excellent.

The quality of the gear I purchased was always pleasant to me. Although I didn’t sell anything with them, I did sell some gear on Craigslist to keep more of my asking price. However, I believe I would sell the gear today if it was possible (even though Craigslist is overrun with scammers).

KEH Camera will take a fair portion of all sales. However, if you are planning to sell with KEH Camera you would do so for the ease and less for maximum profit.

KEH purchases your used gear direct and then resells it. This allows them to keep more of the proceeds.

There are strengths and weaknesses, however.

KEH Camera is a great place to purchase used camera gear. They accept PayPal, Stripe or Affirm, which is an interest-free method to pay for your camera gear over a number of months.

Is KEH Camera available?

KEH Camera is located at Smyrna in Georgia. They accept drop-offs in person and pick-ups during regular hours Monday through Friday.

Nevertheless, the KEH Camera website clearly shows that most of their business is done online.

For example, you can get a quote from KEH for your used camera gear over the phone or by email.

Warranty

• Do not buy used gear on a resale site that does not offer a warranty
• KEH Camera offers a 6-month guarantee on nearly all their gear.
• They do however sell collectible items, but they don’t offer any warranty. Also, none of their gear is covered.
• Nevertheless, as the KEH Camera review points out, having a warranty for your used items is a big benefit.

Alternatives

Once upon a while, KEH was all you needed to sell or purchase used equipment.

There are many places where you can sell or buy used camera gear. MPB, which is based in London but has offices in New York, is my favorite place to buy or sell used gear.

MPB’s grading system works just as well as KEH Cameras’, but MPB, an international company, has a wider selection of used gear than KEH Cameras.

MPB is an international, large company. They know that they must compete with Amazon and offer fast shipping and the excellent customer service you would expect. To learn more about the MPB customer experience, you can read complete MPB reviews.

The DIY route is another option for KEH Cameras. Gear Focus allows you to list your camera gear for free.

The chart shows that selling gear on Gear Focus can result in hundreds of dollars more for you.

How to Sell Camera Gear with KEH Camera?

Dan Bullman Photography points to the fact that KEH camera lets you sell your used gear in a variety ways.

For the fastest response, you can use their “instant quote” page online. Although this is not a guarantee offer, they will need to verify that your camera is in good condition before they can give you a quote. However, it is a great way to find out how much your gear is worth.

You can also call the purchasing department at 800-342-5534 from Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 9 PM ET.

You can also email the purchasing department at [email protected] to sell your used gear. They will need your name and address as well as your phone number. They will get back to your within one business day.

If you live in California or Georgia, you can also attend their in-person buying events. This is where most of their buying events take place.

Is the KEH camera price comparable?

If the price of your camera is changed within 14 days of you selling it, KEH Camera will price match.

You get a six-month warranty on most their gear. This is a great assurance for when you purchase a new camera or lens.
